I’m so thrilled to be participating in Day 6 of the blog tour for the new Amanda Prowse short story Hot Chocolate and Tea Cakes! The blog tour kicked off with Kirsty at The Love of a Good Book over here on July 15th and ever since then has been making its way across a host of other blogs:
The short story features Poppy and Martin, stars of Poppy Day which was released in 2012 and also the utterly spectacular Will You Remember Me? Amanda’s newest full-length novel, which I reviewed on here earlier this week.
Yesterday, the story continued over at She Loves to Read if you need to catch up.
And without further ado, here’s the next excerpt of this lovely little story:
Hot Chocolate and Teacakes.
By Amanda Prowse
‘Actually I’m glad I bumped into you two,’ Sonny sniffed, ‘I’ve got a couple of toasted teacakes about to go off, I was going to chuck them, but as you are both heading nowhere, would you help me out and eat them?’
Martin nodded quickly as his mouth watered at the thought of the melting butter and plump currants. Poppy beamed as she gripped the carrier bag in her hand and stepped over the threshold of the café.
Poppy fished the key from the dirt filled flower pot by the front door and let herself into the flat that she shared with her Nan, Dorothea, her grandad, Wally and her Mum, Cheryl, on the odd occasion that she came home.
‘Oh here she is, I was just about to send a search party for you!’ Poppy’s Nan, called from the kitchen. ‘Where you bin?’
Poppy threw her carrier bag on the hall floor and kicked off her wet shoes before peeling the socks from her cold feet.
‘Me and Mart went to Sonny’s. He had some teacakes that were going off so we ate them for him.’
‘You won’t want any tea then?’ Her Nan asked.
Poppy shook her head, easier than to admit that she could always, always eat more.
‘You and that boy are joined at the hip. Is he your boyfriend?’ Her Nan teased.
Don’t forget to stop by Megan’s blog tomorrow for the next instalment!
For anyone wanting to purchase Amanda’s new novel (and I insist you do!) then you can head on over to Amazon.
About Amanda: www.amandaprowse.org
Amanda has always obsessively crafted short stories and scribbled notes for potential books. Five years ago, she quite her job as a management consultant and began writing full time. The result was Poppy Day, the story of an army wife, whose incredible love for her husband gives her the courage to rescue him from hostages in Afghanistan. Originally self-published in October 2011 with 100% of royalties going to the Royal British Legion, Poppy Day quickly became a bestseller and Amanda was signed up by Head of Zeus publishers.
All of Amanda’s books in the No Greater Love series share common themes in that they are contemporary love stories, the main characters are women, just like you and I, in extraordinary situations for love.
Amanda’s ambition is to create stories that keep people from turning the bedside lamp off at night, great characters that ensure you take every step with them and tales that fill your head so you can’t possibly read another book until the memory fades…
Currently, Amanda lives in the West Country with her husband Major Simeon Prowse MBE and their two teenage boys Ben and Josh. As an army wife, she is accustomed to being uprooted and moving on at a moment’s notice, a pattern that has shaped her life – as the oldest of four children, she was born raised in London before moving all over the world. She hopes one day that her nomadic life will cease, allowing her to fulfil an ambition of planting a garden and remaining somewhere long enough to watch it grow!
